About vignette roads in Slovakia
Slovakia vignette roads include all the motorways and expressways in the Slovak Republic. All vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 t entering the Slovakia toll road system must have an electronic vignette attached to their plate number. Vehicles with a trailer, the total maximum technically permissible weight of which is over 3.5 t need an additional motorway vignette for the trailer in the same category.
The e-vignette for Slovakia can be purchased online via a simple procedure. A customer should complete the registration form, cover the service fees, and save the vignette confirmation sent to the email address onto the electronic device.
Driving Slovakia toll roads without a valid e-vignette is penalized with fines varying from 100 EUR to 500 EUR. Purchase a Slovak digital vignette electronically before entering highways to avoid problems during the trip.

Toll roads in Slovakia are divided into motorways and expressways. Slovakian motorways have two independent lanes going in opposite directions, with an emergency lane on either side. They are marked with a ‘D’ letter, the road signs are white on green.
Expressways in Slovakia are dual carriageways with lesser standards than motorways but with the same limits. Similar to highways, they have white on green road signs and are marked with an ‘R’ letter.

When to buy a vignette before entering the Slovak toll roads?
Slovak e-vignette must be bought before using any motorways or other routes included in the Slovakia toll system. Since not all border crossings and intersections allow the purchase of the e-vignette for Slovakia, it is highly recommended to order a motorway vignette electronically before setting out on a journey. It is not possible to buy an e-vignette retrospectively if you forgot to do so on time.
Depending on your travel plans, you can obtain a Slovakia digital vignette with 1-year, 365-day, 30-day or 10-day validity period. Note that you must have a valid e-vignette throughout the entire period of using Slovakia toll roads.
